How Will You Fill The Void?

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

What good is a glove without a hand? A glove is made in the image of a hand. Thus, it is made to contain a hand. If the glove does not contain a hand it is void and useless. This is the human condition without God. The bible tells us in Genesis 1:27 that we are created in the image of God. Because we bear his image we are made to be filled with him. When we are not filled with him we are empty and useless.

A human void of the presence of God is always looking for something to fill the emptiness that is inside of them. In John 2:1-11, there was a marriage taking place in Cana of Galilee. Everybody loves weddings. They are full of enjoyment and everyone is excited and happy. In those times wine was a large part of the wedding feast and the same was true of the wedding in Cana of Galilee. The people were enjoying themselves. They were celebrating without a worry or care in the world until the wine ran out...

The wine in this story represents the enjoyment and pleasure that comes from worldly things. What wine are you drinking? Is it the wine of lust and sexual immorality? Is it the wine of a love of money? Is it the wine of drugs and alcohol? Is it the wine of your boyfriend/girlfriend? Is it the wine of eating disorders? Is it the wine of your career/job? Think about it.

Too often we become consumed with the things of this world. We turn our backs on God and search for completeness and fulfillment in worldly things. As God is speaking to the seven churches in the book of Revelation he tells the church in Ephesus that they have left their first love (Rev. 2:4). Sadly we have left our first love, Jesus. Jesus wants to make his home in us yet we reject him and fill ourselves with worldly pleasures. Saints, I encourage you to return to your first love. How long will we turn our back on God? How long will we put Jesus on the back burner?

Have you ever seen somebody or are you somebody who looks for joy in partying? Or love in having sex? Or pleasure in having money? These things are only temporary. When the party is over, where will you go? When the sex is over, who will make you feel good? When the money runs out, how will you find pleasure? The answer is JESUS! Whatever you stand in the need of God can be just that.

Jesus is always waiting to come fill us. When the wine ran out at the wedding he was right there to replenish it. John 2:9-10 had this to say: "When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was...the governor of the feast called the bridegroom and saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine: and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now." Hallelujah! The wine that Jesus provided was better than the wine first served at the wedding. Jesus is the BEST wine! Why settle for Satan's cheap imitation when you can have God's best?

Jesus is the only thing that can complete us. So, the next time you feel empty and in need ask yourself..."How will I fill the void?"

The Story Behind The Name

"Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?"
Song of Solomon 8:5

Throughout the Song of Solomon we see a beautiful story that tells of the love and courtship between Solomon and a country girl. As Solomon courts his lover we begin to see a transformation take place within her. While she is just a country girl in the beginning of this love story, as she grows and matures she becomes the Shulamite which is the feminine form of Solomon.

This is the relationship between me and my beloved, Jesus. Each day spent with my beloved I am transformed into his bride. In order to be God's bride we must utterly depend on him. Those that are strong in themselves are disqualified. We must learn to be those who lean on the beloved. When we lean on the Lord, we overcome the wilderness (the world).

This is why I have chosen "Leaning On My Beloved" as the title for this blog. As I share my experience of who God is to me on my day by day journey towards becoming the bride, it is my prayer and desire that you would join me in being those loving seekers of the Lord who learn to become weak in themselves in order to become strong in Christ.
